A technological milestone for the Korean cement industry

Asia Cement Co., Ltd., one of Korea’s leading cement producers, has successfully commissioned their first CemCat / Maerz Ofenbau AG SCR plant. This plant marks the introduction of Korea’s very first high-dust, high-temperature Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.

The installation of this state-of-the-art plant represents a significant advancement in emission control technology for Asia Cement. Installed on the 4,500 t/d clinker production line at the company’s Jecheon plant, this project is a first for the Korean cement industry, with Asia Cement becoming the first producer in Korea to implement SCR technology in cement production.

Following the successful completion of performance tests, during which all measured emission values were significantly below the contractual guarantees, the SCR system was officially handed over on 3 November 2025. The high-dust SCR system enables a reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions of up to 95% while also substantially decreasing volatile organic compounds (VOC).

This pioneering investment establishes a new reference for advanced flue-gas cleaning solutions in Korea. The installation sets a new benchmark for environmental protection demonstrating Asia Cement’s long-term commitment to sustainability and technological leadership.

Further details on this project will be published in the February 2026 issue of World Cement.
